Department Description
The Department of Music at UNC-Chapel HIll offers a BM and BA in Music Performance and an MA and Ph.D. in Musicology for undergraduate and graduate students. Our mission is to educate performance and musicology majors and to provide general music courses for non-major students. We serve the public by presenting performances by students, faculty, and guest artists. We offer over one hundred concerts and recitals each year. We have a newly-renovated, state-of-the-art auditorium which includes recording (audio and video) as well as an improved lighting and sound system. We have a total of 60 full- and part-time faculty who teach approximately 2500 students during the academic year and another 200 during Summer School.
Position Description
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties: creating and integrating departmental informational resources (including websites, print publications and other electronic media) to comprise a cohesive program connecting and promoting the department within the University and broader community; administrating, maintaining and developing the Music Department website, as well as additional related music sites (e.g. Kenan Scholars Program etc.).
The person in this position serves as the communications hub for the department, consolidating information and facilitating connections across various department constituencies, both internal (faculty, staff, students) and external (prospective students, alumni, donors, audiences). This person also hires, trains, and supervises a team of work study staff in reception, communications, typing concert programs and other faculty support tasks. In addition, the selected candidate provides core administrative support for the department by managing room scheduling, producing concert materials (e.g. tickets, programs), facilitating mailing processes, and serving as an information resource for office and other technology (e.g. software, classroom tech, office applications). In addition to the previous listed duties, this person writes the department's annual newsletter and produces two concert schedule calendars, one in fall and one in spring. The selected candidate works with faculty to accomplish these tasks. This person is also responsible for writing publicity narratives for performance faculty concerts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications
A high level of knowledge in multi-media, as well as a high degree of computer knowledge is highly preferable. A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor's in Music is also very desirable. Apple experience is highly preferred.
