Department Description
The Kenan-Flagler Business School, located at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is a nationally ranked professional business school. Kenan-Flagler offers a range of professional and academic degree programs, including an undergraduate degree in Business (BSBA); an MBA program delivered in five different methods (full-time, evening, weekend, on-line, global); a dual degree program with Tsinghua University; a Master of Accounting (MAC) degree delivered in two different methods (full-time and on-line); and a PhD program. Beyond its degree programs, Kenan-Flagler also directs and maintains the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, which is the outreach and research arm of the School, and the Executive Development Program, which houses its nationally-ranked executive education programs. Kenan-Flagler Business School enrolls over 2,500 students annually in its programs and lives/operates by its core values of excellence, leadership, integrity, community and teamwork.
The (HR) Human Resources Office in Kenan-Flagler Business School is the first point of contact for human resources matters in the Business School. The School is comprised of approximately 1,000 employees (primary appointment), including 300 faculty (101 benefits earning and 199 adjuncts with intermittent FTE); 251 SHRA and EHRA permanent employees; 132 SHRA temporary employees, 50 PhD students and 334 student employees. The HR Office, comprised of 6 FTE's, handles employment, recruitment, employee relations, faculty appointments and promotions, work authorization, immigration, time and information management, and other human resources matters.
Position Description
This position is responsible for applying, communicating and utilizing best practices in human resources, including familiarity with University, State and federal policies related to human resources.
Specific responsibilities include: 1.) Independently handle employment and onboarding for 300- 350 student employees per academic year; 2.) Responsible for leave, time and attendance for Kenan-Flagler employees, including serving as a subject matter expert and training and consulting with managers and employees. Counsel and track employees on an approved leave status (i.e., FMLA, FIL, Workers Comp); 3.) Independently handle miscellaneous human resources actions, such as entering or approving FTE change for Adjunct Faculty, serving as the subject matter expert on independent contractors and overseeing the review of IC's; entering and approving payment transactions, including faculty payments; handling payroll and payroll cost matters; etc.; 4.) SHRA, EHRA Non-Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and temporary employment. 5.) Serve as backup for many functions and duties of the team.
The Employment Manager will report to the Assistant Dean of Human Resources.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of prior human resources experience and higher education human resources experience is preferred.
