Department Description
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 49 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center's mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.
The fiscal division of the Center currently employs 33 staff members, the largest centralized unit of this kind in the School of Medicine. In addition to the contracts and grants funding which was $93 million in FY17; the Center manages the University Cancer Research Fund of $44 million annually; an annual state budget of $1.7 million; a fundraising unit with annual revenues of over $29 million; $10 million in recharge revenues which are generated from the Center's Core facilities; $3.6 million in overhead receipts; and $14.7 million in trusts, endowments, and professorship accounts.
Position Description

The LCCC has created a Research Project and Foundation Grants Team to submit all non-program projects proposals and foundation grants for the more than 100 PIs at LCCC. The University Program Specialist Contributing (UPSC) will be an integral part of the LCCC Research Administration Group. This pre-award specialist will be responsible for the submission of non-program project proposals, JIT requests, and progress reports. This position will no longer perform administrative duties and will take on a larger portfolio of PIs. University Program Specialist Contributing (UPSC) are expected to submit 100-120 proposals and RPPRs per year, keep Other Support current, and format Biosketches in accordance with LCCC/agency policy. Additionally, UPSC will facilitate a customer service driven environment by offering LCCC PIs pre-award meeting(s), engage in professional email exchange(s), and telephone interactions. When the situation arises, University Program Specialist Contributing (UPSC) will back up other team members in order to equalize workload.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of experience in Pre-Award Administration for a variety of grant mechanisms.
